Chocolate Brickle Squares

Just like Rick Bragg, I too have been published in Southern Living Magazine! Yep, my tiny claim to fame occurred in November 1994 when this recipe for Chocolate Brickle Squares was included in the holiday recipe section of the magazine and also on page 290 of the 1994 Southern Living Annual Recipes Cookbook. The recipe below is an image from the cookbook. Southern Living also gave me a free pass to a live cooking demonstration at the Fort Worth Convention center and a stack of recipe cards with my recipe printed on them. The next year my friend Betsi also had her bean salad recipe printed. It was great fun!

Nowadays Southern Living rarely prints reader’s recipes. I miss that feature. I loved seeing the names and cities of other readers, like me, who were deemed worthy of inclusion in this bearer of all things Southern. That’s because we know the best Southern cooks are the home cooks.
