I am so excited to share the Clemence’s second GUEST book review with you! Clemence and I met in Sunday School when we were 5 years old, so we have known each other for at least 24 years. Haha. Clemence lives in Knoxville, Tennessee and owns an inherited home in Memphis, Tennessee that often requires her attention. She has been listening to classic audiobooks on her six hour drives between the two cities.  For Whom The Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is the second classic novel she will review,  plus she hopes to review a modern book for us soon. For Whom the Bell Tolls is about a fictional character who is an American named Robert Jordan who fights in the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s against the facists. It was more of a history lesson for me because I did not realize that the 1930s Spanish Civil War was considered a dress rehearsal for World War II. I see parallels between 1930s Spain and the current US polarization. In the 1930s Spain was highly polarized and it ended up in a Civil War. My prayer is that godly peacemakers who are able to Promote the kingdom of God which includes peace will be wise and prevent a Civil War in our country. I wondered about the title, so I looked up the book and Wikipedia. Here is what Wikipedia says about the title. “The book’s title is taken from the metaphysical poet John Donne’s series of meditations and prayers on health, pain, and sickness (written while Donne was convalescing from a nearly fatal illness) published in 1624 as Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, specifically Meditation XVII. “ I did enjoy the book and recommend others to read it.  5-stars.
